Linen Made to Be Handed Down

arkitaip is the work of an Austrian mother and daughter, Michi and Lea Wieser, who started in 2019 with the faintly radical notion that clothes might be built to outlast the season you bought them in. Michi, who once spent her working life as a flight attendant, still hand-makes the crochet pieces herself, which tells you rather a lot about how this is done: slowly, and by people who care whether it lasts.

The linen is the whole argument. It's 100% European flax, Masters of Linen certified, cut and sewn in a small family-run factory in Portugal, and it happens to be one of the more forgiving fabrics a wardrobe can own: breathable, biodegradable, and rather better-looking the more it's worn. Kaftans that double as jackets, blouses that go from beach to dinner, the sort of easy elegance that doesn't try too hard. Do have a browse.
