Handmade Jewellery From a Tallinn Studio.

New Vintage by Kriss is the eponymous label of Kriss Eglite, a Tallinn-based jewellery designer who has been designing and hand-making her pieces from a single studio in the Estonian capital since 2011. The materials run to the better end of independent jewellery: 925 sterling silver, gold-filled metal, semi-precious stones, and cultured pearls, all chosen and worked individually rather than ordered as components. The aesthetic is the one the brand name suggests — vintage shapes (signet rings, talismanic pendants, asymmetric ear cuffs) reworked with a modern restraint, and increasingly threaded through with sacred-geometry motifs that Eglite has been exploring more closely in recent years and which she 3D-prints rather than casts traditionally, partly because the precision of the geometry demands it, and partly because 3D printing wastes meaningfully less metal than the lost-wax method most independent jewellers still use.

The brand has accumulated the kind of credibility that takes a small jewellery label years to build: a 2018 Estonian Golden Needle award nomination and a People's Favourite win in the same year, a fourteen-thousand-follower Instagram presence, and a stocking footprint across small and mid-sized European jewellery retailers. The animating idea behind the work is the slightly more substantive version of the empowerment line most jewellery brands gesture at — Eglite designs explicitly for women setting their own rhythm, the pieces emphasise individuality over conformity, and the workshop she runs in her Tallinn studio (groups of six to twenty-two, starting from €59, materials and snacks included) lets customers spend a morning making their own piece rather than just buying one. It is the kind of operational choice that signals a designer treating her own craft as something to share rather than something to protect.

The NVBYK studio at Tatari 64, 2nd floor, Tallinn, Estonia is a working studio rather than a conventional boutique — open to visitors during set hours (Mon 15:00–18:00, Wed 11:30–13:00, Thu 14:30–18:30, closed Tue and Fri) and used the rest of the time for the workshops Kriss runs for small groups of six to twenty-two people.
